Top 5 Savvy Tips To Combat Winter Skin

The sun was shining in my office the other day, I closed my eyes and could almost hear the crashing waves on our favorite beach in Cape Breton in the summer when the sun is warm and my skin has a shiny glow speckled with freckles.

Then I opened my eyes & was brought back to reality of winter and it’s harsh conditions that can wreak havoc on our skin leaving it feeling dry, itchy & irritable.

I want to help you get your glowing summer skin back without hopping on a flight to Mexico (although that would be amazing as well!)

Here are my top 5 savvy tips to combat winter skin:

  1. Drink more water - your body is made up of 60% water and we are constantly losing water from our bodies everyday. So we need to drink enough to replenish that water loss. If we don’t, it will have an impact on our entire body including our skin.

If you have a tough time getting the recommended amount of water a day try adding doTERRA essential oils to your water. Citrus oils like lemon, lime, grapefruit, or tangerine can help detoxify + cleanse your body.

  2. Dry brushing  - This is a simple technique that can be done before a bath or shower. It’s important to choose the right brush for you (some are firmer than others) I use this one.

It exfoliates the skin brushing away dull, rough, flaky skin cells making your skin feel softer and smoother.

  3. Moisturize your skin - After you’ve finished dry brushing you will want to follow up with a good moisturizer. My absolute favorite is doTERRA’s unscented hand + body lotion. I love this lotion because I can add any essential oils I want to help with specific skin concerns like dry, itchy skin.

Add 2-3 drops of these ones that are proven to help with dry skin: Copaiba, Cedarwood, Jasmine, Magnolia, Myrrh, Neroli, Sandalwood, Yarrow Pom or Geranium and massage into your body.

  4. Switch to a more hydrating facial routine - for dry skin I would recommend doTERRA’s Verage or Essential Skin Care lines. Both of these are excellent choices to help hydrate dry winter skin. The Essential Skin Care line specializes in anti-aging moisturizer + eye cream (LOVE!)

  5. Place a diffuser in the rooms in your house where you spend the most time. A cool mist diffuser with a few drops of essential oils has a number of health benefits. By adding a few drops of essential oils can help you feel calmer and more rested especially after a busy day and add extra hydration to the room - win- win
